The need for high-performance, power- and energy-efficient memory systems has driven the interest of researchers to unconventional memory organizations, in particular, hybrid main memory. The diversity of volatile and non-volatile memory technologies has created opportunities for their implementation. Due to the continuous increase of memory system demands and the progress of memory technologies, we expect the field of hybrid main memory systems to keep expanding. We survey and classify their organizations in accordance with our taxonomy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to systematize the body of contemporary work in the field.
