Boda mill – A Meeting Point for Renewable Energy systems

Boda mill is a heritage center in Sweden with a unique system for energy management which is composed of a hydropower plant, heat pump, solar collectors and a thermal storage system with a phase change material (PCM). The primary purpose of the hydropower plant is to generate electricity for a local community. The turbine is also a source of waste heat, which is utilized for heating of the club house by the means of an air-water heat pump. The heat generated by the heat pump is stored in ten thermal storage tanks with PCM until the need for heating in the club house appears. Whenever possible, the PCM storage is complemented with the heat collected by solar collectors. A sophisticated control system integrates and controls all components into a functional energy management system.
