Nonlinear Propagation of Partially Incoherent Light
Doktorsavhandling, 2005

This thesis deals with consequences of partial incoherence on light propagation in nonlinear media. A new approach, based on the Wigner transform method, has beed developed and used to investigate several important problems in nonlinear light propagation. In particular, this new method is proven to be equivalent to other existing methods for analyzing partial incoherence. Furthermore, it is found that the nonlinear phenomena of modulational instability and pulse collapse tend to be suppressed by the presence of partial incoherence. However, the form of the incoherence spectrum plays a decisive role in this process. analysis fo the interaction between two partially incoherent solitons has shown that in the presence of partial incoherence, the properties of the interaction may be completely altered as compared to the coherent case.
